Our Programs
At Robin’s Nest, we offer an integrated Preschool and Pre-K learning program designed to nurture your child’s potential and prepare them for future educational success. Our child-centered and teacher-led approach ensures a balanced learning environment.
Our Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten Programs
Being a small group learning and care environment, tuned to both Preschool and Pre-K services, the general difference between our programs is the age and abilities of the children. Our Pre-K age range is typically 4-5 years, and Preschool is generally 3-4 years. The curriculum and activities for Pre-K are more focused on readiness for the child’s transition to Kindergarten. A big benefit of being a mixed group program is that more advanced Pre-K curriculum activities are also available to Preschool children who demonstrate readiness for such activities. Children don’t formally “graduate” from Preschool to Pre-K. Rather, they advance in the complexity of lessons and activities as their abilities develop. Group activities are abundant, which are designed to consider, include and engage all ages within our group. At Robin’s Nest we truly promote the formation of a cohesive little family of young learners, where no child is “lost in the group”. We encourage children to engage in a wide array of activities, to challenge themselves, and we always meet each child where they’re at developmentally. Most all activities are made available to all children as they desire.
Preschool
Preschool, in general terms, is an environment where children acquire the skills needed in order to ultimately be prepared for public or private school-based education. Skills developed during this period are introduced in a gradual and sequential manner throughout the years leading up to the Pre-Kindergarten transition period (Pre-K). Preschool children are discovering themselves and the world around them, and may best learn through tangible, physical and practical means. At Robin’s Nest we strive to provide a positive, encouraging environment where young learners are mentally and socially active, where they’re engaged and supported in activities that promote learning the purpose of things and to make meaningful connections. We strive to advance the social, emotional and cognitive development of each child.
General Curriculum Description
Preschool focuses on children’s development and readiness through child-guided, teacher-led, structured or play-based activities in an individual or group setting. Children learn:
Self-confidence building, emotional self-regulation and self-discipline skills.
Communication skills. Social skills development, character development and coping skills.
Curiosity and discovery activities, cause & effect recognition and problem-solving.
Gross and fine motor skills development.
Skills in language, reading and writing development.
Introductory physics and math concepts and skills.
Appreciation for imaginative play, music, dance, and nature activities.
Pre-K
Pre-K is considered to be the transition between Preschool and Kindergarten. It’s of great benefit to children who need a little more time to get used to school. This program is intended to help each child meet the requirements for Kindergarten entry. Upon completion of our program children will participate in a formal Graduation Ceremony, prior to starting Kindergarten in the fall.
General Curriculum Description
Pre-K focuses on developing skills needed for Kindergarten. Lessons are typically more advanced than Preschool. Children learn to work independently to build self-confidence. Children continue to engage in group settings on detail-oriented or problem solving group projects.
Activities are designed to be increasingly student-led. If a child demonstrates more interest in a certain topic, they may develop their own related projects with the teacher’s assistance. Activities intend to promote reading, writing, math, science, and critical thinking skills.
